PAKISTAN MILITARY STRATEGIZES

It is a fact that Pakistan Military strategizes on it assets and capabilities. This was evident during the 27th February 2019 operation against the Indian Military when in the broad day light , the PAF aircraft jets pounded the Indian military targets. It is also said that during that raid, the top Indian military commander of Northern command Gen Ranbir Singh was there in the headquarters when it was hit by the Pakistani jets especially the JF 17 thunder and Mirage V. On the very same day, an Indian Airforce Wing commander was caught by the Pakistan army from Kashmir as his plane was shot. The pilot wing commander Abhinandan was captured and taken as prisoner and was taken care of. On the night of 27th February 2019, the Indian National security advisor Mr. Ajit Doval called his Pakistani counterpart Lt Gen Asim Munir and asked him to handover the Indian pilot back to India or else India would bomb Pakistani cities. On this the Pakistan military strategized and selected eight cities of India to which Pakistan would launch a missile in case India escalates the war and targets Pakistani cities. This sudden response alerted the American state department who called both countries leaders to deescalate the situation.

Apart from that , the Pakistan Air force prepared a strategy on the day it carried out the air strikes on 27th February 2019, by directing all its aircraft including F16 , JF-17 and Mirage aircraft to go airborne. This was done first to make sure that India does not counter attack Pakistan. Secondly it made sure that in an event of a war, there must be minimal damage to its fleet as the Indian air force will not be able to attack aircraft parked on Pakistani airbases. To make sure that all its aircraft are working coherently, Pakistan air force activated its Data links that connected all its fleet aircraft thereby providing complete situational awareness to all its assets. It also used its AWACS fleet in an efficient manner by scanning the border 24/7. Thirdly it used its mid-air refueling assets like the IL-78 aircraft to refuel its jet fighters especially its JF 17 and F-16 falcon.

Similarly on 27th February 2019, the Pakistan Navy made a very bold strategy to counter India's huge Navy. At that time, Pakistan Navy only had one Agosta 90B submarine in operation at the Arabian Sea while its remaining 4 submarines were under upgradation program to Turkey. This caused a problem as it had to counter single handedly India’s large Navy. To counter this, it sent its lone Agosta submarine deep into the Arabian sea towards the direction of Indian coast. The Indian Navy was monitoring this very closely and they thought Pakistan had sent this submarine to attack them. For twenty one continues days, the Indian navy was searching for this submarine around its western coast by employing all its ASW assets to locate it only to find that the Pakistani submarine was in Ormara naval dockyard. This surprised the Indian military leadership as they could not believe that one submarine kept the Indian navy engaged.

OPERATION SWIFT RETORT : PAKISTAN SHOULD PRIORITIZE INVESTMENT IN THE JF-17

To the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Operation Swift Retort had ‘worked.’ The PAF said it was able to carryout precision strikes against multiple targets across the Line of Control (LoC) while also dissuading a larger and better equipped force from escalating tensions any further. The PAF lauded the effectiveness of its Falcon 20-based electronic warfare (EW) and electronic countermeasures (ECM) aircraft – it specifically noted how the Falcon 20 apparently jammed communications between the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) assets.[1] The PAF also felt that Swift Retort validated its ability to deploy stand-off range weapons (SOW), and manage large-scale air operations. Indeed, for the PAF, Swift Retort was an unprecedented experience in that this operation was its first involving networked assets, long-range guided bombs (SOW) against pre-planned targets and, potentially, as many as 18 to 24 fighters supported by special mission aircraft. But if Operation Swift Retort ‘worked,’ it ...
